The Moscow City Hall did not approve a rally in defense of freedom of assembly

Activists of the Left Resistance were denied permission to rally in defense of freedom of assembly "New Strategy 31". This was reported by the activists themselves in their group on VKontakte.

In response to the notification of the action on Triumfalnaya Square on July 31, the Moscow Department of Regional Security stated that "another event is planned to be held on the indicated day at the declared location." What this event is, the letter does not specify.

The applicants were offered to move the rally to Sokolniki Park. Despite this, the activists nevertheless decided to hold an action on Triumfalnaya Square in the form of a series of single pickets. “The Sokolniki forest paddock does not suit us in any way. The rally for freedom of assembly has taken place and will continue to take place on Triumfalnaya Square,” the activists said.

• "Strategy-31" is an indefinite series of actions in defense of freedom of assembly, which is guaranteed by the 31st article of the Constitution. Usually the action takes place on Triumphalnaya Square. The first event within the framework of "Strategy-31" was held in 2009.
• The police regularly detain participants of the "Strategy-31" action. So, in 2014, Sergei Mokhnatkin was sentenced to four and a half years in a strict regime colony, having been found guilty of violence against the police during the dispersal of the action on December 31, 2013 on Triumfalnaya Square.
