Used cars in Russia have aged almost two years in six months

Prices for used cars are not rising (and, taking into account inflation, they are falling), while they have aged dramatically. This is a sure sign of the crisis that has gripped the Russian car market - people are getting rid of old cars less and less and, accordingly, do not buy new ones. Consumers have taken a "waiting attitude".

What happened. For six months, used cars in Russia have risen in price by a symbolic 0.1% on average and now cost 575 thousand rubles, follows from a study by Avto.ru.

  • The average age of a used car entering the market has increased by a year and ten months in six months, to 11 years and four months. about this Writes "Kommersant" .
  • As always, Moscow stands out for the better (used cars have risen in price by 6.4%, to 863.3 thousand rubles) and St. Petersburg (+2.8%, 721.1 thousand rubles). In the regions, cars are getting cheaper - for example, in the Volgograd region by 1.5%, and now a car can be bought there on average for 410.6 thousand rubles.
  • In real terms, in January-May, the market for used cars decreased by 12%, to 428,000 vehicles (Avtostat data).

The last time the car market fell at a comparable pace was in the summer of the crisis year of 2016. This is due to the decline in real incomes of citizens and especially the middle class.
