A member of the youth parliament of North Ossetia was fined for a comment about “priests and relics”

A court in Vladikavkaz fined Roman Gabaraev, a member of the youth parliament of North Ossetia, 15 thousand rubles for a comment about Orthodox Christians on Facebook. This was reported on the website of the republican department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

On July 18, Gabaraev criticized the participants in the local religious procession, calling on them “together with their icons, priests, relics” to get out of the republic. After the post began to be widely discussed in Ossetia, the deputy apologized on Facebook to “true and faithful Christians of the republic.”

A protocol on inciting hatred or enmity was drawn up against Gabaraev (Article 20.3.1 of the Administrative Code). As the Caucasian Knot writes with reference to KrylyaTV, in court Gabaraev explained his actions by saying that he was drunk. After the court decision was announced, the deputy said that he did not regret anything: “This is not such a big price for my people to know the truth.”
