Taxi drivers detained in Tatarstan were suspected of trying to poison the canteens of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB

Yandex.Taxi drivers Ruslan Shamshutdinov and Ilshat Zainagutdinov, after whose arrest the FSB announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in Nizhnekamsk, are suspected of planning to poison departmental canteens of local departments of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Such data was announced by the investigator in court when selecting a preventive measure, he was quoted by Realnoe Vremya.

Although the FSB previously reported preventing an explosion at “one of the infrastructure facilities of the Republic of Tatarstan,” so far 40-year-old Shamshutdinov and 43-year-old Zainagutdinov are accused under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code (promoting terrorist activities by inducement and recruitment) and Part 1 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code ( public calls for terrorist activities).

According to the FSB, from May to July of this year, the men “took active measures to induce residents of Nizhnekamsk to commit terrorist attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation in the interests of the international terrorist organization Islamic State, banned in our country.” They also took measures to “search for poisons to poison the departmental canteens of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB and to take hostages, including law enforcement officers” - for the sake of “extracting official information from them, and after that destroying the employees’ data.”

A source from Realnoe Vremya claims that security forces suspect taxi drivers of spying on their colleagues from Nizhnekamsk.

After being charged under two articles, Shamshutdinov fully admitted his guilt; in court, he said that he “talked a lot” and “studied this topic,” and called “some powders” found on him planted.

As a result, the Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan sent both taxi drivers under arrest until September 29.
