FBK director and unregistered candidate for the Moscow City Duma Ivan Zhdanov went on a hunger strike during the consideration of a complaint against his administrative arrest in the Moscow City Court. FBK lawyer Alexander Pomazuev announced this on Twitter.
Pomazuev said that the judge did not allow the oppositionist to be physically present in court, so he participated in the hearing via video link. In addition, the court refused to call witnesses, keep minutes of the meeting, and also did not allow Zhdanov’s defense to familiarize themselves with the case materials.
“I no longer have any ways or opportunities to convey my position. From this day on, I go on a hunger strike and refuse to eat. I will no longer answer questions, I refuse to participate in this court hearing,” quotes Zhdanov as saying. the head of his campaign headquarters, Boris Zolotarevsky,
Earlier on July 29, the Zelenogradsky District Court of Moscow arrested Zhdanov for 15 days, finding him guilty under Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code (participation in an unauthorized rally that interfered with the movement of vehicles and pedestrians).
He was detained on July 27 on Trubnaya Square, where a rally was taking place in support of independent candidates who were not allowed to participate in the Moscow City Duma elections.
In addition, a protocol was drawn up against Zhdanov under Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (organization of an uncoordinated event). The judge of the Meshchansky District Court postponed the consideration of this protocol.
