VKontakte blocked the page of the Chelyabinsk environmental movement Stop GOK. When you try to visit a group, the social network displays a message stating that the community is blocked "for suspicious charitable contributions."
Movement activist Vasily Moskovets told Ural. MBKh Media, that the group organized a fundraiser to conduct an examination of the Tominsky GOK project, which belongs to the Russian Copper Company. According to the activist, blocking the group is "a deliberate step to combat the movement against the construction of the Tominsky GOK."
“We knew that measures were being taken to block the group back in February from the reports of the Center for Combating Extremism, which directly indicated that they were carrying out operational-search measures in order to block our group. The announced collection of funds for the examination served as a pretext. We have already contacted the VK technical support service with a request to unblock the community, ”Moskovets said.
Local residents oppose the construction of a mining and processing plant (GOK) seven kilometers from Chelyabinsk. They fear pollution of the air, soil and reservoirs, where acids can get, with the help of which copper is mined. Ore is mined with the help of explosions - there is a possibility of destruction of houses.
OVD-Info spoke about the conflict between residents and the authorities over the construction of the plant and how the police are trying to stop the protest.
