State-owned enterprises filed claims for damages against participants in the July 27 rally

State Unitary Enterprise Mosgortrans and State Budgetary Institution Automobile Roads filed claims for compensation for damage caused to transport and urban services as a result of the protests against the participants of the July 27 action. This was reported by the Moscow City News Agency with reference to the press service of the State Unitary Enterprise Mosgortrans.

“The total amount of the first claims amounted to more than 12.5 million rubles. The total damage suffered by commercial and non-profit institutions as a result of unauthorized actions approximately amounted to more than 100 million rubles,” the Agency quotes the company’s message.

Claims for damages have been filed against persons against whom criminal cases have been initiated under the article on mass riots (Article 212 of the Criminal Code). It is not specified which specific people we are talking about. Applications were submitted to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

• The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under parts 1, 2, 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code on July 30 in connection with the July 27 rally in support of independent candidates in the Moscow City Duma elections. The investigation believes that the participants in the action “paralyzed the movement of vehicles on the Garden Ring in Moscow, and also committed other illegal actions.” There are currently 10 defendants in the case. Two more - Sergei Fomin and Aidar Gubaidulin - should be given a preventive measure on August 9.
• On July 27, a rally against the exclusion of candidates from the Moscow City Duma elections took place in the center of Moscow. According to OVD-Info, 1,373 people were detained at the protest. At least 265 people spent the night in police departments.
