The court in Makhachkala extended the detention of journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev

The Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala extended the detention of Chernovik journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev in a pre-trial detention center. This was reported by the Caucasian Knot publication.

Gadzhiev's detention was extended until September 13. The journalist is accused of organizing the financing of terrorism (Part 4 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code).

The prosecution asked that Gadzhiev be left in pre-trial detention to carry out “a number of investigative actions and procedural measures.” In addition, the investigation believes that the journalist, if another preventive measure is chosen, may hide abroad, where he has traveled several times.

In addition, according to the investigator, if the preventive measure is changed, Gadzhiev may “obstruct the establishment of the truth in a criminal case by creating artificial evidence of his innocence.”

The defense stated that the investigation did not prove the need to keep the journalist in custody. According to lawyer Arsen Shabanov, there is no evidence in the case of Gadzhiev’s involvement in the crime.

“The prosecutor repeats like a mantra that I have a foreign passport and I can hide. But they didn't even bother to check if I had it. I don't have a passport. I had it, but its validity expired, and I did not receive a new passport,” Caucasian Knot quotes Gadzhiev as saying.
