The head of the Central Election Commission called Ilya Yashin’s proposal to postpone the elections to the Moscow City Duma premature

The head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, said that she had not yet seen a letter from Ilya Yashin, who asked the Central Election Commission to postpone the elections to the Moscow City Duma until the end of autumn and allow opposition candidates to participate in the elections. In an interview with Business FM , she said that there must be good reasons for postponing the elections, which are not yet available.

“It is simply impossible to postpone the elections, there must be serious reasons for this. So far, there are only talks about the fact that you simply registered those who did not collect signatures, and those who did did not register. But, you understand, this is not serious. If we have facts, serious grounds, then, of course, in accordance with the law, we will consider this situation. Now it's premature. First of all, we have not yet finished considering all the appeals to us, we have not finished studying all the materials that come to us. That is, there is no way to talk about it yet,” the head of the CEC said.

Earlier today, Ilya Yashin, who is serving an administrative arrest, published a letter sent to him from the special detention center to Ella Pamfilova.

“I, along with other candidates, are under arrest. Bandits in black masks are beating our voters on the streets, and some are being imprisoned. And you, as if nothing is happening, are signing the decisions of the CEC, which deprive Moscow of the right to choose <...> Finally, use your powers in the name of the Constitution and in the interests of citizens. Cancel the pseudo-elections to the Moscow City Duma, which are scheduled for September 8. Schedule a new vote for the end of the fall and ensure the participation of the opposition. Realize the will of the people and give Muscovites back the right to choose,” he wrote.

On August 9, the Central Election Commission finally refused to register Yashin as a candidate for deputies of the Moscow City Duma.
