Goblin will translate films for Rostelecom

Dmitry Puchkov (known under the pseudonym Goblin) will translate and dub 11 films for Rostelecom, a representative of the operator told Vedomosti. Films in this translation will be exclusively available only on Rostelecom’s platforms – the Wink video service and the video library of the Interactive Cinema service. The first film translated by Goblin for Rostelecom was Green Book, a story about a black jazz musician, which won an Oscar this year. Puchkov’s representative confirmed to Vedomosti information about the contract with Ros-Telecom. The parties did not disclose the amount.

Thanks to cooperation with Goblin and his exclusive translations, Rostelecom expects to attract a new audience to its services. The video services market in Russia is growing rapidly, and platforms are fiercely competing for audiences. One of the main ways to attract new users is exclusive content. Several Russian video services, primarily those associated with television channels, are already producing series and shows specifically for the Internet. Among them are TNT Premier, Start, Okko and Kinopoisk from Yandex. But such original content is expensive and more often the platforms agree, for example, that a film or series will be available only on this service for some time and only then on all others. A special translation of a film is another form of exclusive content to promote the service. But it's much cheaper than producing your own content.

Goblin’s voice and translation style are known and loved by millions of moviegoers in Russia, explains a Rostelecom representative: “Possessing a bright personality, this translator always takes great care of the original, the real language and style of the film’s authors, which allows the spirit and the smallest details to be revealed as accurately as possible.” paintings".

Goblin has been translating and dubbing American films for almost 25 years. He himself divides his work into two types of translations - correct and funny. The first ones are close to the original text of the painting. In total, he translated about 80 paintings during his career.

But Goblin is especially famous for his funny translations, in which he completely reworked the dialogue into a parody. In total, he released six such funny films - based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, an episode of Star Wars, The Matrix and the Russian Boomer.

For Rostelecom, Puchkov will make the correct translations, says his representative. The translation and dubbing of eight films has already been completed; in the near future they will be available to Rostelecom subscribers and Wink users. These are not only new films, but also those that Goblin will re-sound, including “Casino” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Access to a foreign film on Rostelecom services costs about 150 rubles, Goblin will receive part of the income from the sale of films in translation, a representative of the operator clarified.

The operator does not place any restrictions on a translator who actively uses obscene language in the voice-over. There is no censorship, Igor Puchkov confirmed. Currently, 5.3 million Russian households have a subscription to Interactive TV from Rostelecom, another 2.7 million people have downloaded the Wink application, the operator reported.
