The decision to plant the Airbus A321 plane on the field in the Ramensky district of the Moscow Region was made after the second engine was out of order. This was announced by the crew commander Damir Yusupov.
“The engines capacities were not enough to continue the flight, even to hold the height that we took by that time. The height was insignificant. Initially, a decision appeared to turn around, landing, but when we saw that the second engine also refused, <...> I had a decision only to plant a plane in front of me,” the liner commander on Russia -1 television channel said. At the same time, he noted that the preparation of the aircraft for departure was held as usual.
After the failure of the engines, the pilot said, it became clear that the touch with the ground is inevitable. "I made attempts (determine) how to softer the plane, so that the touch was at a minimum vertical speed," Yusupov said.
He explained that the crew decided to plant the plane without the release of the chassis, as it is safer. “It could be safer to plant a plane without a chassis, it could turn over, and the consequences could be worse,” the pilot noted.
In general, the aircraft commander gave his actions a modest assessment. “Many say that the hero, but, frankly, I don’t feel myself a hero, because I did what I had to do: I saved the plane, passengers, the crew,” Damir Yusupov explained.
Most of the saved passengers refused to continue the flight
Most of the 226 passengers of the Ural Airlines aircraft, emergency sitting in the morning on Thursday in the suburbs, refused to continue the flight to the Crimea. This is stated in the report of the carrier on the Instagram network.
"Seven passengers flew out to Simferopol (the manual luggage was given to them). The luggage will be sent by the nearest flight. 65 passengers with baggage and manual treasury were currently delivered by bus to the Domodedovo Airport and will go to Crimea with an additional flight at 20:25 (Moscow time). The rest of the passengers refused to further flight, they will be returned to the money returning. Funds in full, as well as compensation, ”the report said.
Investigators interviewed the pilots of the aircraft, TASS told TASS a source close to the investigation. "A survey of the pilots is completed. The preliminary reason for the fire of the engine, which later led to an emergency landing of the aircraft, was the hit of birds. The disaster was avoided only thanks to the professional actions of the crew," the agency’s interlocutor said.
According to the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexander Neudko, "the crew made the only right decision in such a situation - to land right in front of him on the corn field." "The flight crew of the aircraft acted competently, professionally and courageously, deserves the presentation of the highest state awards," he emphasized.
After both engines refused the airliner due to birds, the crew worked jewelry, said the honored pilot of Russia, a reserve lieutenant General Viktor Sevostyanov. He called the plane on the belly without releasing the chassis, "the right decision." “The released chassis [when landing on the field] is a guarantee that the plane will break, a fire is possible, and the destruction of the aircraft as a result,” he said. The crew also managed to turn off the engines in time and block the supply of fuel in them, which prevented the possibility of ignition, Sevostyanov noted.
On the "Five with a plus" the honored pilot-test pilot Viktor Zabolotsky appreciated the actions of the crew. “The crew had a problem immediately after taking off, the engine refusal. If the pilot for at least a second detains the plane on this corner [take -off], after the second or third second he will lose speed and control of the plane. Therefore, in this situation, you need to very quickly and smoothly transfer the aircraft to reduce and maintain this speed. And then - make a decision where to sit down. <...> This program was laid in the head,” he said. The actions of the flight attendants were also professional and operational, Zabolotsky added.
The editor -in -chief of the Avia.ru portal Roman Gusarov also noted the skill of the pilots. "The engine stops on take -off, regardless of the specific reason, it is very dangerous, this is the most difficult stage of the flight, when everything relies on the engines," he said.
The fact that Yusupov managed to filigree landing with non -working engines and to save more than 230 people was perceived by his wife Natalia as granted. “This is his work, which he is very pedantically approaching. <...> He is now worried about the whole situation, he is worried about passengers - he has such a character,” she said to TASS. “In aviation, he was about seven years old, before that he worked as a lawyer. Work in the sky was his dream.”
The actions of the crew A321 deserve the highest rating and awards, said Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, opening a meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation. "It is obvious that the crew’s actions deserve the highest rating, according to the results of the consideration of this situation, it will be necessary to prepare documents on how to present them to state awards," he said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that thanks to the skillful actions of the crew, it was possible to prevent the catastrophe and death of people. “It is clear that the commissions will work there, which will have to find out what happened and because of what,” he added. “But in any case, that in such very difficult conditions the plane managed to land, is, of course, a very good event.”
Recall, on the morning of August 15, the Airbus A321 passenger aircraft "Ural Airlines" flew out of Zhukovsky’s capital to Simferopol. However, immediately after takeoff, the liner made an emergency landing in the corn field. According to the air carrier and the Federal Air Transport Agency, birds hit both engines of the soaring liner, as a result of which there was a refusal, and then the fire of power plants.
