The Moscow City Court refused to change the preventive measure for a student of the Higher School of Economics (HSE) Yegor Zhukov, arrested before September 27 in the criminal case of "riots" on July 27 in Moscow. The defense asked to mitigate the measure of restraint Zhukov and place him under house arrest or let go on bail, reports Mediazon .

Zhukov participated in a meeting on the video, the judge rejected the request that he was personally present in the hall. Today, dozens of people came to the Moscow City Court building, most of them could not get into the hall, including guarantors for Zhukov - rapper Oximiron, the publisher of the Mediazones, Peter Verzilov, actress Chulpan Khamatov, lawyer FBK Lyubov Sobol. At the same time, the court on the basis of the fact that they are not personally present in the hall, refused to attach to the case of their guarantee.

Also, the warranty of the head of the editorial council of Novaya Gazeta Dmitry Muratov and the editor -in -chief of Echo of Moscow, Alexei Venediktov, were not attached. According to New Gazeta , in total, Judge Tatyana Dodonov refused to introduce 612 guarantees to the case in his defense, due to the repetitions of some of them in the texts. Oximiron and Associate Professor Sergei Savelyev were ready to pay a bail for 2 million rubles for Zhukov.

During the debate, the student’s lawyer said that the investigation tried not only to persuade Zhukov to recognize, but also to testify against other defendants in the case, promising house arrest. The defense also noted again that Zhukov was accused of participating in the riots due to gestures with his hand. Allegedly, he directed the crowd of protesters, while in fact the student led them off the roadway. This was previously announced by Venediktov, who saw the relevant video.

The prosecutor, in turn, stated that another preventive measure, in addition to arrest, is impossible, since there are grounds and fears that Zhukov would attempt to hide or will interfere with other methods to interfere with the investigative process.

“In my actions on the 27th, of course, there was nothing that is described by“ riots ”, insofar as I think of my personal beliefs, I consider this kind of actions as a minimum stupid, wrong, ineffective, and at a maximum, I really just did not do this.

The worst thing that can happen to a person in my situation is oblivion. I believe - you will not forget. There is a significant difference between the procession, even if unauthorized, and mass riots. I did not set fire to and smashed that day. I did not attack the employees of the Russian Guard and the police that day. I did not commit any violence on one or some other day. Because violence against the forces of authoritarian regimes is at least ineffective. I believe in it deeply, which is why the accusations on such an article seem doubly strange to me.

I want to thank our powerful people - those people whose will I am in a pre -trial detention center - because their actions endowed me with such public support, which I would hardly have ever had without them. For the fact that they placed me in the place where I had the opportunity to develop the resistance of their character. Egor Zhukov, Leonid Solovyov, said that the defense would file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights, writes New Gazeta in Telegram .

Earlier, more than 300 HSE teachers asked a letter to the Moscow City Court and the Investigative Committee with a request to terminate the criminal prosecution of Yegor Zhukov and release other defendants in the case of "riots." The court did not take into account the letter, since it was "not signed by anyone."

Members of the Presidential Council of Human Rights also indicated the absurdity of the case, noting that they did not find evidence of pogroms or massive use by the participants of the action on July 27.

At the moment, in the case of "riots" there are 14 defendants, only one admitted guilty - an activist of "Yabloko" student Valery Kostenok . So far, the Moscow City Court, when considering the arrests of the accused, has not satisfied any request to choose a different preventive measure, leaving Ivan Podkopaev, Sergey Abanichev, Samariddin Rajabov, Vladislav Zhukov, Daniil Konon and Alexei Minyailo.
