Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano became the first space DJ in history (VIDEO)

Italian European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Luca Parmitano, who arrived on board the ISS for the second time in July this year, became the world's first space DJ.

As RIA Novosti reports, Parmitano performed from orbit at the electronic World Club Dome festival, which takes place in Ibiza. A video of the performance, during which Parmitano used a tablet with a special application installed on it as a DJ console, is available on the festival’s Facebook page.

Before Parmitano, German DJ Le Shuuk performed at the festival, from whom the Italian astronaut had previously learned the basics of the DJ profession. After Le Shuuk announced the world's first DJ performance from orbit, a broadcast from the ISS began on the screen located on the stage.

At the beginning, Parmitano addressed the audience with a greeting and said that when, during the selection for the ESA astronaut corps, he was asked what he would do if he had the opportunity to change only one thing on Earth, he replied that he dreams of a universal language for everyone inhabitants of the planet. But later Parmitano decided that he was mistaken, since such languages ​​already exist.

“We have two languages ​​that are truly understandable to everyone and are capable of uniting people. The first of them is mathematics, the language of scientists <...> The second language that everyone knows, everyone understands, and no one argues about it is music. Music is a great equalizer. Everyone listens and enjoys music, even if the music is different, everyone understands music and understands that music brings people together,” Parmitano said. After that he started his set.

A little over a minute before the end of the broadcast, the Italian stopped the music, as the Earth reported that the communication session would soon end. In parting, Parmitano told the audience that space is the common dream of humanity.
