17 Old Man's palaces: in which residences Lukashenko live and why it is building new

Alexander Lukashenko has an average of three residences for each of the six areas of Belarus. Only in Minsk he has three palaces at once - not a single authoritarian leader in the world has this. Moreover, new ones continue to be built, and the luxury of the courtyard of the dictator is already becoming one of the factors of the discontent of Belarusians.

The number “17” was called the Belarusian president himself, when he was asked a direct question on this topic. This happened on February 3, 2017, during the so-called "big conversation" in front of the television cameras. However, Lukashenko immediately stated that all his residences were “very modest”, and that only one was built “even under Khrushchev” for state money. For everyone else, they say, money from the budget was not spent at all.

However, the independent Belarusian media, who were interested in the topic, found out that Lukashenko, to put it mildly, was cunning. And the residences themselves can hardly be called modest, and they were built for budget money. Although the official data on the places of Lukashenko’s stay is largely classified, several “guidebooks” appeared in the media according to the residence of the head of the Belarusian state. According to various information, Alexander Lukashenko has 16 existing residences and 2 more is built (these are secret objects, there is no data on them).

Most of Lukashenko’s residences are objects once built for the CPSU (more precisely by the CPB - the Communist Party of Belarus) or the Foreign Ministry and rebuilt or simply modernized for the new government.
