The case of Ivan Podkopaev, a defendant in the “mass riots” case, was sent to court

The Investigative Committee has completed the investigation into the case of Ivan Podkopaev. This was reported on the website of the UK.

Podkopaev is charged with the use of violence against a representative of the authorities (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, during the rally on July 27, Podkopaev, “hiding his face under a balaclava, sprayed an aggressive chemical into the faces of police officers and servicemen of the National Guard. As a result of the deed, two injured servicemen who received a chemical burn of the mucous membrane of both eyes required medical assistance.

The anonymous Akitilop telegram channel, without reference to a source , claimed that during the arrest, a knife, a hammer, a gas can, a clerical knife and a gas mask were confiscated from Ivan Podkopaev.

• There are 13 defendants in the July 27 case, all of them are in custody. All were charged with participating in mass riots (part 2 of article 212 of the Criminal Code). Three of them - Yevgenia Kovalenko, Kirill Zhukova and Danila Beglets - were also accused of using non-dangerous violence against government officials. Their cases under this article have been separated into a separate proceeding, the investigation of these cases has already been completed.
• In total, during the protest actions in Moscow on July 27 in support of independent candidates in the elections to the Moscow City Duma, according to OVD-Info, were detained 1,373 people . At least 265 detainees spent the night in police departments. Three days after the action, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the riots.
• The protests continued for the next two weeks. On August 3, protest walks took place along the Boulevard Ring, during which 1,001 people were detained. A week after the agreed rally on Sakharov Avenue, the protesters went for a walk in the center of Moscow. Then in the capital, according to OVD-Info, 256 people were detained.
