On August 22, the Kaliningrad Regional Court declared unlawful the refusal of Mayor Alexei Silanov to agree on a picket in support of Moscow actions for the release of political prisoners and the admission of independent candidates to the elections. This is reported by the publication "New Kaliningrad" with reference to the court order.
The regional court actually canceled the decision of the Central District Court of Kaliningrad, which found no violations in the actions of the authorities.
Vladimir Nemanov, a volunteer from Navalny's headquarters, filed a complaint against the mayor's office's decision. In the first half of August, he filed a notice to hold a “Picket of Solidarity” near the monument to “Compatriots-Cosmonauts” in the city center. Up to 100 people were supposed to take part in the picket on August 10.
The head of Kaliningrad, Aleksey Silanov, responded to the notification that it was impossible to hold the action, since another event announced earlier was planned in the same place. The action was proposed to be moved to South Park, where protesters are often sent.
In his lawsuit, a volunteer of Navalny's headquarters noted that the area of the land plot on which the event was planned was more than 1200 square meters. meters. In his opinion, there would be enough space for participants in both actions.
The regional court finally concluded that the mayor's office's proposal to change the location of the picket was not motivated and did not contain specific data on the impossibility of organizing a rally at the originally proposed site.
Nemanov is going to go to court with a claim for moral damages due to the refusal to approve the picket.
