The cost of holding four matches of the European Football Championship in St. Petersburg, which will be held in 2020, is tentatively estimated at 6.3 billion rubles. This is stated in the draft resolution of the government of the Russian Federation "On the preparation program for the organization of the Russian part of the tournament."
- The European Championship will be held from June 12 to July 12, 2020. The matches will be hosted by 12 cities in different European countries. St. Petersburg will host three group stage matches and a quarter-final (July 3).
- In the summer of 2018, Russia hosted the FIFA World Cup. The cost of hosting the 2018 World Cup, according to the organizing committee, amounted to 688 billion rubles. At the same time, the total impact of the tournament on Russia's GDP over the five years amounted, according to the organizing committee, to 952 billion rubles.
