The court decided not to return to the pre-trial detention center a pensioner arrested in the case of insulting an official

In Moscow, a justice of the peace decided not to return to the pre-trial detention center 66-year-old pensioner Tamara Vasilyeva, who was previously arrested for an unpaid fine in the case of insulting a representative of the authorities (Article 319 of the Criminal Code). This was announced on Facebook by lawyer Dmitry Dzhulai.

The magistrate refused to satisfy the submission filed by the Federal Penitentiary Service. The department insisted on replacing the restriction of Vasilyeva's freedom with a real deprivation of liberty. The judge considered that the Federal Penitentiary Service could not prove that the pensioner was hiding.

• In 2017, Tamara Vasilyeva was fined seven thousand rubles in a criminal case of insulting the head of a rural settlement. The pensioner had no money to pay the fine, so in 2018 her punishment was changed to restriction of freedom. In 2019, the Federal Penitentiary Service made a proposal to change the punishment, and on July 15, the Basmanny Court of Moscow sent Vasilyeva to a pre-trial detention center for 30 days. After 9 days, the Moscow City Court canceled this decision, and Vasilyeva was released.
