Murmansk: human rights activist Irina Paikacheva died in Bulgaria

On August 29, the famous Murmansk human rights activist Irina Paikacheva died in Bulgaria. She drowned while bathing at sea. Severpost, citing the ex-head of the Public Chamber of the Murmansk Region, Yuri Manankov, reports that the human rights activist refused his heart.

Paikacheva’s body will be cremated in Bulgaria, after which the ashes will be delivered to Murmansk for burial.

“Irina was one of those people who became a person of public control in our country, especially his initial romantic stage of 2008-2013 ... I want to believe that the Lord took her to the next world for some great important deeds,” the public figure and human rights activist Andrei Babushkin wrote on his blog.

He also added that the death of Paikacheva was a surprise. Human rights activists, according to him, hoped that she would be in the 5th convocation of the Public Supervisory Commission of the Murmansk Region, possibly becoming its chairman.

Irina Paikacheva was a deputy of the city council of the second convocation, deputy chairman of the regional branch of the Yabloko party.

In 2002, she was appointed a member of the regional commission for pardon and a member of the commission to restore the rights of repressed. Actively collaborated with the Moscow Helsinsky group. She also took part in the foundation of the Murmansk branch of the Memorial Society and headed the human rights organization "Lawyers for Human Rights".
