Severodvinsk: Deputy Prime Minister connected an explosion with the development of new weapons

The explosion at the military training ground in the Arkhangelsk region, as a result of which five people were killed, occurred due to the development of new weapons, told the Vedomosti newspaper, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, responsible for the development of defense industry.

The official did not tell details about the causes of the accident, saying that such risks cannot be excluded "when creating fundamentally new models of equipment." He also noted that for doctors working with the victims there is no threat to health.

The explosion at the training ground near Severodvinsky occurred on August 8. As a result of the accident, at least five employees of the Rosatom state corporation died. In Rosatom, they insist that the explosion occurred during work with the reactive installation. The Ministry of Defense did not provide detailed information about what happened. On the day of the accident, the radiation background in Severodvinsk briefly grew 16 times, but normalized during the day.

The Russian BBC service said that doctors who worked with the injured from the explosion did not warn that patients were infected with radiation. Doctors worked without protective costumes.
