Volkswagen has offered assistance to owners of vintage Volkswagen Beetles and vans to convert them into electric cars, writes The Verge. To do this, a new battery pack and an electric motor from the e-UP electric city car will be “transplanted” into the cars. The work itself will be carried out by the German company eClassics, a partner of the concern. Who can apply for help and how much the work will cost has not yet been specified.

Details. After the “transplant”, the new engine will take place under the rear trunk of the car, where the gasoline engine is located in the “beetles”. Due to the fact that the size of the electric motor is smaller, there will be more space in the rear trunk. Approximately in the same place, the charging of the electric car will be located - under one of the rear lights.

Unless the mass of the E-Beetle will increase compared to the classic model to 1280 kilograms, but the manufacturers promise acceleration to 80 km / h in eight seconds. In this case, the maximum speed of the car will be 150 km / h. On a full charge and maximum speed, the car will be able to cover about 200 km.
