A spontaneous rally was organized in Ulan-Ude. Protesters demanded re-election of mayor

A spontaneous rally began on the central square of Ulan-Ude, Babr24 and Irkutsk Today reported.

According to Babr24, at first the rally participants demanded the release of detained supporters of Alexander Gabyshev, a resident of Yakutsk who calls himself a “shaman-warrior” and has been walking to Moscow since March to conduct a “rite of expulsion of Putin.”

Later, the protesters were joined by the leaders of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in Buryatia - deputy of the republican parliament Bair Tsyrenov and member of the Federation Council from the Irkutsk region Vyacheslav Markhaev (he soon left). The protesters began to criticize the policies of the republican authorities and the mayoral elections of Ulan-Ude that took place the day before. They demanded repeat elections.

Bair Tsyrenov told Rosbalt that about 150 people were taking part in the rally. Law enforcement officers arrived at the square. They called on the protesters to disperse, but did not detain anyone, Babr24 reports.

• On a single voting day, September 8, Ulan-Ude held elections for the mayor of the city and deputies of the city council. In the mayoral elections, Vyacheslav Markhaev lost to United Russia member Igor Shutenkov.
• In August, Markhaev publicly criticized the actions of the police during the dispersal of protests in Moscow. The senator, who was previously the commander of the Buryat riot police, called the actions of the police “illegal and professionally illiterate.”
