Ulan-Ude: protesters in the city center demanded re-election

A spontaneous rally began on the central square of Ulan-Ude, the Irkutsk Today publication reports.

According to the publication, at first the rally participants demanded the release of the detainees of Alexander Gabyshev, a resident of Yakutsk, who has been going to Moscow since March to conduct a "rite of Putin's exile."

Then, the protesters were unhappy with the results of the past elections, in which the protege of the authorities, the acting head of the city Igor Shutenkov, won. The protesters said that they supported his opponent - the senator from the Irkutsk region Vyacheslav Markhaev, who, together with the leader of the Communist Party in Buryatia, was also a deputy of the republican parliament of Bairo Tsyrenov.

According to approximate estimates, 150 people took part in the rally. The protesters demanded repeated elections to the square of law enforcement officers. They called on the protesters to disperse, but did not detain anyone, the local edition of Babr24 reports.

On a single voting day on September 8, elections of the mayor of the city and deputies of the city council were held in Ulan-Ude. In the mayor’s elections, Vyacheslav Markhaev lost a member of United Russia to Igor Shutenkov.

In August, Marchaev publicly condemned the police during the dispersal of protest shares in Moscow. The senator, previously former the commander of the Buryat riot police, called the police actions "unlawful and professionally illiterate."
