The headline of the news was changed due to clarification of the circumstances of the court decision
The Vologda City Court awarded compensation in the amount of 50,000 rubles to local activist Yevgeny Domozhirov, who was acquitted in a case of libel and extremism. This was reported by the head of the International Human Rights Organization "Agora" Pavel Chikov.
Agora's lawyer Vitaly Cherkasov, who represents Domozhirov's interests, does not agree with the "meager amount of compensation" and intends to appeal the court's decision.
The coordinator of the Vologda headquarters of Navalny Domozhirov was accused in a libel case (part 2 of article 128 of the Criminal Code) for accusing the regional prosecutor of “protecting” a local businesswoman. When the police arrived late in the evening with a search at Domozhirov's country house. The activist, not realizing who had arrived, rudely asked people to leave. Later, his answer became the reason for initiating a case under article 319 of the Criminal Code - a public insult to a representative of the authorities.
Police officers, trying to get into Domozhirov's house, injured the hand of his elderly mother, about which the activist emotionally wrote on social networks. Because of those publications, Domozhirov was accused of inciting hatred against a social group - “Vologda police officers” (part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code). On March 30, Domozhirov's 68-year-old mother was sentenced to a fine of 6,000 rubles for publicly insulting a police officer.
Under articles on incitement to hatred and slander, the court found the activist innocent, but appointed 60 hours of compulsory work for insulting a policeman.
