Vologda: the state will pay the activist for illegal criminal prosecution

The court in Vologda ordered the state to pay compensation in the amount of 50 thousand rubles to activist Evgeny Domozhirov, said the head of the Agora international human rights organization Pavel Chikov. Domozhirov was justified according to the articles about slander and extremism. Criminal prosecution was declared illegal.

Activist’s lawyer Vitaly Cherkasov noted that he did not agree with the amount of compensation and intends to appeal the court decision.

Evgeny Domozhirov accused the regional prosecutor of providing patronage to a local entrepreneur. She wrote a statement about him about him. After that, police officers came home to the activist. His mother blocked their way, demanding to present documents. The police hurt her, trying to break through the force.

A criminal case under the article "Insulting a policeman" was opened on Domozhirov and his mother. Later, Galina Domozhirov was fined six thousand rubles. The opposition himself wrote about what happened on his blog, which became the basis for accusing in extremism.

In January 2018, the court recognized the activist innocent under articles on hatred and slander, but he was appointed 60 hours of compulsory work for insulting the policeman.
