The Investigative Committee opened a case of incitement to suicide after the self-immolation of a fighter for the Udmurt language

A criminal case has been opened in Izhevsk into the death of a local resident as a result of self-immolation, reports the Investigative Committee for the Republic of Udmurtia.

As the Investigative Committee clarified, at 9:40 a.m. on September 10, the man “inflicted burns on himself,” after which he was taken to the hospital, where he died, despite the medical assistance provided.

A case was opened under Article 110 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement to suicide). The motives for the actions of the deceased are being established and eyewitnesses are being interviewed.

79-year-old activist of the movement for the preservation of the Udmurt language Albert Razin committed self-immolation near the building of the State Council of Udmurtia. He had a poster with him: “If my language is forgotten tomorrow, I am ready to die today.”

Firefighters put out the fire, before the doctors arrived, Razin was still moving, and he was urgently hospitalized. The activist received burns to almost 100% of his body and died a few hours later.

The session of the State Council, which was supposed to take place on September 10, was postponed to September 24 due to the incident.

Albert Razin was an Honored Scientist of Udmurtia, director of the Institute of Humanity of the Udmurt State University. He advocated for children to learn the Udmurt language and asked local deputies to preserve the disappearing Udmurt ethnic group.
