"We begin to understand that you are traitors." Greta Tunberg performed at the UN Change Summit

In 2018, the Swedish schoolgirl Greta Tunberg staged a strike near the parliament building in Stockholm, saying that she refused to go to school on Fridays until the politicians fulfill the Parisian climate agreement. The Tunberg action attracted attention around the world, and schoolchildren from other countries also began to arrange climatic strikes. Tunberg herself was nominated for the Nobel Prize of the World, began to communicate with politicians and visit international conferences. In August 2019, she crossed the Atlantic Ocean on a sailing yacht to get to New York and take part in the UN Change Summit. At the opening of the summit on September 23, Tunberg made an emotional speech. Here is her short retelling.

All this is wrong. I should not be here, I should return to school. With your empty speeches, you stole my dreams and my childhood. Mass extinction begins, but all that you can talk about is money and fairy tales about endless economic growth. How dare you!

For 30 years, science extremely clearly indicated the danger of global warming. You say that you understand how serious the problem is. But I refuse to believe in this: if you understood everything and continued to inactive, it would be a crime.

A popular proposal to halve harmful emissions into the atmosphere over 10 years will give us a 50 percent probability that the temperature on the planet will increase by less than one and a half degrees Celsius [until the end of the 21st century].

Maybe you are satisfied with 50%. But this forecast is designed that my generation and generation of my children will clean the air of hundreds of billions of tons of your carbon dioxide using technologies that barely exist. A 50 percent risk does not suit us-after all, it is we who will have to deal with the consequences.

You let us in. But we begin to understand that you are traitors. You are addressed by the eyes of future generations. And if you deceive us, we will never forgive. The world wakes up. Changes come whether you want it or not.
