September 17, 2019 marked the 80th anniversary of the entry of the Red Army into Poland. The Soviet Union “took under protection” the fraternal peoples of Western Ukraine and Western Belarus (as stated in Soviet textbooks) and took part in the new partition of Poland (in accordance with the latest Polish historiography). At this moment, the USSR entered World War II in Europe (although there are adherents of other views regarding this date). It is not difficult to notice that today's heated debates are, for the most part, not about the facts of that period, but about their assessments.
