The Moscow City Court upheld the preventive measure for the defendant in the “Moscow case” Ivan Podkopaev

The Moscow City Court left unchanged the preventive measure in the form of detention for Ivan Podkopaev, a defendant in the “Moscow case”, sentenced to three years in prison. This was reported by lawyer Nikolai Fomin, who from OVD-Info represents Podkopaev’s interests in court.

The convicted person will remain in the pre-trial detention center until February 23, 2020. After this, he must be transferred to a colony.

The defense asked to change the measure of restraint to house arrest. The lawyer at the trial noted that Podkopaev cannot hide in another country, since he does not have a foreign passport, and that he admitted guilt.

At the same time, the Moscow City Court previously released another convicted defendant in the “Moscow case,” actor Pavel Ustinov, from a pre-trial detention center. Now he is under recognizance not to leave the place, and the Prosecutor General's Office has already filed an application to change the sentence to a more lenient one.

• Ivan Podkopaev was accused of using violence against government officials (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators , he sprayed a can of pepper aerosol towards the Russian Guard soldiers who were cordoned off at the rally on July 27. Podkopaev agreed with the accusation and admitted guilt. The case was considered in a special manner, that is, without examining the evidence.
• Today, the trials of other defendants in the “Moscow case” Yegor Zhukov and Samariddin Radzhabov also took place. The Basmanny court extended their preventive measure.
