Trump got to impeachment. Will it interfere or help him re -elect?

Democrats in the House of US representatives still began the impeachment of President Donald Trump. The speaker of Nancy Pelosi announced the launch of preliminary investigation yesterday.

Why still impeachment?

This is not to say that this was a surprise. Some of the democrats insisted on this even with the victory in the 2018 Congress elections, and after the investigation of the special prosecutor Müller, the calls for impeachment only intensified. Six committees of the chamber, including legal (he formally issues the accusations to the president - Articles of Impeachment - for voting the chamber), launched their investigations on many dossiers, including Trump's financial affairs and his family. In early August of this year, the chairman of the law committee Democrat Jerrold Odler confirmed that formally the investigation on the impeachment of the president is already underway. In this way, Pelosy simply united the already conducted investigations of all six committees of the chamber “under the roof of the investigation on impeachment” (the chamber has not yet been carried out, and the speaker refused the idea of ​​the formation of the “Special Imperial Committee”).

Nevertheless, until recently, the critical mass in favor of impeachment was neither in Congress or American society - in August, polls showed that more than 50% of Americans against, and the number of supporters of this idea among the democrats in the ward in mid -September did not exceed 143 (out of 435 deputies). Some of the moderate democrats believed that the launch of the impeachment would lead to the defeat of the party in the Congress elections in 2020 (as it was in 1998 with the Republicans who began the impeachment procedure of Bill Clinton) and will help Trump be re-elected for the second term. Such moods allowed the speaker of Nancy Peloshi to beat the pressure of their young deputies (first of all, Ultra Liberal from the “gang of five” led by socialist Okasio Cortes).

And now everything has changed dramatically - today the number of impeachment among the democrats has approached the necessary 218 votes, the impeachment was supported by the Pelosi Speaker, although the alignment in the Senate (where the democrats do not even have a simple majority, not to mention the necessary two -thirds of the votes for the removal of Trump from office) is all the same.
