Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev appointed Deputy Minister of Economic Development Mikhail Babich as First Deputy Minister. This was reported to RBC by the Prime Minister's press secretary Oleg Osipov.
The head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maxim Oreshkin , wrote on Instagram that it was he who proposed to promote Babich, since he "showed his best side."
Babić was appointed deputy minister of economic development in June. In this position, he oversaw integration issues within the Union State of Russia and Belarus, the Eurasian Economic Union and the CIS.
Before joining the Ministry of Economic Development, Babich was the Russian ambassador to Belarus. He worked in this position for less than a year . Babich was fired after Minsk complained that the new ambassador "didn't understand the difference between a federal district and an independent state."
