A lawyer was not allowed to see a participant in protests in Ingushetia against changes in borders with Chechnya in a pre-trial detention center

A lawyer was not allowed to see Zarifa Sautiyeva, who is in a pre-trial detention center in Nalchik. She is accused of organizing the use of violence against government officials (part 3 of article 33, part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code) in connection with a rally in Magas against an agreement on changing the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya. The lawyer stressed that the non-admission is due to a special order of the head of the investigation team. “He is investigating the case of the Ingush rally. He wrote a letter to the head of the pre-trial detention center, which says that the management of the pre-trial detention center should not let in lawyers other than those indicated on the list. I am not on this list, ”MBKh Media quotes Urusova.

At the moment, the second lawyer cannot get to the activist in the pre-trial detention center. “Earlier, she was not allowed to see her, and then she was removed from the hearing on the extension of the preventive measure for lawyer Magomed Bekov. Thus, already two out of three Zarifa's lawyers are not allowed to see their client. For what purpose the investigation restricts her right to defense is not known, ” said Bilan Tsuro, another defender of Sautiyeva, in his telegram channel.

• On July 15, the Nalchik City Court sent Sautiyeva under arrest to a pre-trial detention center. A few days later, she was charged with complicity in violence against law enforcement officers.
• The Ingush branch of Yabloko, the Support of Ingushetia movement and the Patriotic Union of Women of Ingushetia believe that the persecution of Sautiyeva is connected with her civic position. In April, she was fined for participating in the protests in Ingushetia on March 27, and before that, they tried to dismiss her from the post of deputy director for research at the Memorial Complex for the Victims of Repressions.
• On March 26, in Magas, local residents held a concerted rally against the redistribution of borders with Chechnya, its participants demanded the resignation of the head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov.
