
The Office of the Investigative Committee on Karelia checks the torture reports in the correctional colony No. 9 in Petrozavodsk, the press secretary of the department Vitaly Konovalov told North.
He did not clarify when exactly the check began. According to Konovalov, the audit is carried out on the appeals of convicts who reported violence.
In September, the mediazon and the present editions published an article about IK-9, which contain convicts on heavy and especially grave articles. Prisoners told reporters about torture in which the head of the colony participates.
After the publication, the FSIN Office for the region stated that the information was started. Its results are still unknown. The head of the institution accused the media of slander and sued them.
The lawyer of the victims - convicts who declared torture - asked to provide him and his family state protection. He claims that his car was rammed by another car, and the FSIN officers forced his client to abandon his services.
