Russian Railways are ready to implement the construction of the bridge if the state monopoly manages to place unlimited bonds of 250 billion rubles. In this case, a railway line from Selikhin in the Khabarovsk Territory to Nashha in the Sakhalin Region with the intersection of the Nevelsky Strait can be built. A year ago, the state-owned company refused the project, agreeing only to prepare a technical and economic justification of the project.

In early September 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the Economic Forum in Vladivostok, said that the possibility of building a railway bridge between the mainland and Sakhalin is “subject to objectively discussed”.
