Putin fired the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service

The head of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Gennady Kornienko, was dismissed from his post due to reaching the age limit for being in the service - 65 years. The decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin is published on the portal of legal information.

The resignation of Kornienko became known on October 1, but the Kremlin did not confirm it, citing the absence of Putin's decree. Kommersant wrote that Kornienko filed a report a month ago.

• His resignation, according to the publication, tried to expedite the FSB and the Investigative Committee, which opened cases against the leaders of the Federal Penitentiary Service.
• In July, Kornienko's ex-deputy Oleg Korshunov was sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of embezzlement of 250 million rubles allocated for the production of shoes for prisoners.
• In St. Petersburg, former deputy Kornienko Nikolai Barinov also received three and a half years in prison in the case of a bribe of 44 million rubles during the construction of the Kresty-2 detention center.

Applicants for the position of the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service were named the head of the technical support department of the Federal Penitentiary Service Vadim Balanin, who previously worked in the FSB; Deputy Head of the National Guard Oleg Plokhoy; Deputy Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Valery Maksimenko.
