Road enterprises are preparing to sprinkle the streets of St. Petersburg dissolved by salt

All the road enterprises of St. Petersburg have prepared the ingredients for the preparation of saline solutions that will be used on the streets of the city during cooling. This was reported by the Culture Committee, noting that on the night of October 4 to 5, a decrease in temperature is expected to zero degrees and wet snow.

According to officials, on the sidewalks, bridges, overpasses, embankments and other areas, a mixture will be used, in which the percentage of dissolved salt is 20 %. And when processing suburban tracks - a sand -sized mixture that contains 5-10 % salt.

The committee notes that officially the winter season at employees of road enterprises begins on October 16. Parks are terminated today.

Soluble mixtures are used to combat ice, as salt melts snow, and it falls into the sewer. Without it, the snow mass has to be taken to snow melting structures, for which a special equipment is needed. In addition, in Vodokanal they say that the sand that replaces salt creates its inconvenience: the sand that remains after winter clogs the sewer in the spring - it has to be cleaned and burned with other waste.
