The database of clients of the telecom operator "Beeline" got into open access, reports "Kommersant". A link to the database was shared with the publication by sources in banking information security services.
The database contains 8.7 million records with information about customers who have connected their home Internet through Beeline throughout Russia. It contains the names and surnames of customers, their mobile and home phones.
The database contains information as of November 2016. It mentions clients with both active and closed contracts. Employees of Kommersant who have or had an Internet connection from Beeline found information about themselves in the database.
The press service of Beeline stated that the data obtained by Kommersant is a small part of the 2017 database. “We fixed the data leak two years ago. All the perpetrators were identified and punished, at the moment most of the information is already outdated data, ”the press service said, adding that the investigation into the incident continues.
According to the interlocutor of Kommersant, who is close to the Central Bank, the information provided may be of value to fraudsters who steal citizens' funds using social engineering (misleading due to available information in order to further find out from the client the data necessary for the theft of his funds, in particular , full bank card number, CVV code and other information).
