Participants in protests in Ingushetia against border changes continue to be denied access to lawyers in pre-trial detention centers

Barakh Chemurziev and Dzhokhar Aliyev, who are accused of using violence against police officers (Article 318 of the Criminal Code) in connection with protests in Ingushetia, were not allowed to have lawyers in the pre-trial detention center. This was reported by MBKh Media.

The staff of the pre-trial detention center in Nalchik referred to a certain order of the investigator, which limits the circle of defense attorneys who can supposedly be allowed to see those held in the detention center. “This document does not have any legal force, but the pre-trial detention center employees still follow it. At the same time, the investigator refuses to talk with lawyers. None of them had ever seen him or even talked on the phone,” MBKh Media quotes lawyer Magomed Abubakarov.

• Previously, for the same reason, two lawyers were not allowed into the pre-trial detention center to see Zarifa Sautieva, who is also accused of violence against government officials (Part 3 of Article 33, Part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code).
• On March 26, in Magas, local residents held a coordinated rally against the redistribution of borders with Chechnya; its participants demanded the resignation of the head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov. After the official end of the action, as the Caucasian Knot reported , about two thousand protesters remained in the square all night. On the morning of March 27, security forces began to disperse the protesters, and clashes broke out . The protesters left the square after the authorities promised to coordinate a new protest in five days. Afterwards, local residents gathered at the entrance to Nazran, blocking the Caucasus federal highway.
