Roskomnadzor unblocked the website of the Fergana news agency

The website of the Fergana news agency has been removed from the register of prohibited resources of Roskomnadzor, and access to it has been returned to Russia. This was reported on the Ferghana website.

The Fergana website stopped opening in Russia on October 1. On the website of Roskomnadzor it appeared that the decision on this was made a day earlier on the basis of the law “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection”. At the same time, Roskomnadzor did not notify the owners of the site about the blocking and its reason, and promised to respond to the request within 30 days.

According to the CEO of Ferghana, thanks to the Roskomsvoboda project to monitor the blocking of Internet resources, it became clear that the claims were caused by the publication of the suicide of a pensioner in Kyrgyzstan. Damir Gaynutdinov, a lawyer for the Agora international human rights group, confirmed this information. The page was removed by notifying Roskomnadzor.

After that, the site was excluded from the list of prohibited resources.

• Earlier, Roskomnadzor demanded that the editor-in-chief of Fergana be fined, because one of the publications did not indicate that the Turkmen Jehovah's Witness Society was banned in the Russian Federation, although it was not on the list of "extremist organizations." On October 2, the court session was postponed.
• The Fergana news agency, which has existed since 1998, has been blocked in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Now the blocking is valid only in Turkmenistan.
