Moscow police filed million-dollar claims against oppositionists for maintaining order at protests

Moscow police filed a lawsuit against Alexei Navalny and other oppositionists in the amount of almost 18 million rubles for involving police forces at uncoordinated rallies on July 27 and August 3. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the press service of the Simonovsky District Court.

In two lawsuits dated September 30, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow demands compensation for damage “caused in connection with the involvement of forces and means to ensure public order as a result of uncoordinated mass events.” A lawsuit in connection with the July 27 action in the amount of almost 8.5 million rubles was filed against Alexei Navalny, the coordinator of his headquarters Oleg Stepanov and unregistered candidates for the Moscow City Duma Vladimir Milov, Ilya Yashin, Ivan Zhdanov, Lyubov Sobol, Alexander Solovyov. The second lawsuit, regarding the action on August 3, was filed in the amount of 9.4 million rubles against Lyubov Sobol and FBK employee Georgy Alburov.

• The Koptevsky District Court satisfied the claim of Mosgortrans for the recovery of 1,218,591 rubles for delaying the movement of public route transport during protests in the summer in Moscow, the claim of the State Budgetary Institution "Automobile Roads" for the recovery of 3 million 402 thousand rubles for damage to road infrastructure, as well as the claim Moscow Metro for 53,747 rubles for several employees going to work on their day off. In favor of the Armenia restaurant, the court recovered 241,520 rubles from the organizers of the action.
• On July 27, a rally was held in Moscow for the admission of independent candidates to the Moscow City Duma elections. According to OVD-Info, at least 1,373 people were detained that day. At least 265 protesters spent two nights in police stations.
