The ECHR awarded compensation of 5,750 euros for detention at the rally on June 12, 2017 on the Champs de Mars

The European Court of Human Rights has awarded compensation in the amount of 5,750 euros to Katerina Korneeva for unlawful detention during an anti-corruption rally on June 12, 2017 on the Field of Mars in St. Petersburg. This was announced by Korneeva's lawyer from the "Apology of Protest" Alexander Peredruk.

This is the first decision of the ECHR in the case of the dispersal of the rally against corruption on June 12, 2017 on the Field of Mars. On that day, Korneeva was charged with failure to comply with a lawful order of an official (under part 1 of article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) and a violation by a participant in a public event of the procedure for holding an action (part 5 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). They released her only in the evening of the next day. The Vasileostrovskiy District Court and the St. Petersburg City Court rejected all defense motions, and Korneeva was found guilty.

Korneeva appealed to the ECHR against illegal detention, conviction twice (under two articles) for the same act, as well as the lack of a fair trial in national courts.

The ECHR took the side of Korneeva and her lawyer from the "Apology of Protest" Alexander Peredruk, found that the right to liberty and security of person (Article 5 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms), the right to a fair trial (Article 6 of the Convention) had been violated ), the right not to be punished twice (Article 4 of Protocol No. 7 to the Convention).

Actions against corruption took place on June 12, 2017 in 154 cities of Russia. According to the organizers, journalists and participants, a total of 98,720 people took to the streets, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs - 49,661.
Unlawful detentions and beatings of participants by the police were recorded at the actions. More than 1769 people got into the police department. In 46 police departments, at least 109 serious violations of the law were committed by officers. In the 33rd department of St. Petersburg, police officers sprayed tear gas in the room with the detainees.
