The ECHR awarded compensation of 2,000 euros for illegal arrest in 2014 in Krasnodar

The European Court of Human Rights awarded compensation in the amount of 2,000 euros for the detention and arrest of Leonid Martynyuk in Krasnodar in 2014. This is reported by the "Apology of Protest".

Martynyuk, a Krasnodar activist of Solidarity and the RPR-PARNAS party, was detained on August 23, 2014 in Krasnodar. At the station, Martynyuk was pushed by an unknown person. A protocol was drawn up against him under Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (petty hooliganism), after which he was sent to a special detention center at the Internal Affairs Directorate in Krasnodar. The court then sentenced him to 10 days. The detention took place during the persecution of activists in Krasnodar in connection with the “March for the federalization of Kuban” planned for August 17.

The ECHR found a violation of the right to a fair trial (Article 6 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms), as well as a violation of the right to appeal due to immediate administrative arrest (Article 2 of Protocol 7 to the Convention).
