A court in St. Petersburg dismissed two cases due to protests against pension reform in 2018

On October 9, the Petersburg City Court terminated the administrative proceedings against Alena Panova and Alexander Mironov, who were detained at protests against pension reform on September 9, 2018. This was reported by the Detainees Assistance Group.

Earlier, Panova was fined 10,000 rubles under an article on participation in an action that interfered with the movement of pedestrians and vehicles (part 6.1 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). First, the court of first instance imposed a fine on her, then the city court overturned this decision and sent the case for a new trial, which ended with a decision on the fine. This time, however, the city court dismissed the case.

In the case of Mironov, the court first imposed an arrest, then, at a new consideration, replaced it with a fine and offset it against the served arrest. Now the case has been closed.

19:40 Human rights activist Dinar Idrisov, who represented Mironov's interests in the city court, told OVD-Info that this case was returned to the first instance five times. On October 9, the case was closed, according to Idrisov, due to the fact that video recordings were added to the case.

• On September 9, 2018, rallies and marches were held in many cities of the country against raising the retirement age. According to OVD-Info, the police detained more than 1,195 people in different cities of Russia.
