Zhenya Ignatov was released. He spent almost seven years in a maximum security colony for a crime that he did not commit

The hero of our publication “Sit, you have a little left ...” October 3 was released. Let me remind you that in December 2012, in Smolensk, a student to his wife Ignatov threw drugs and demanded money. He refused to pay. Then the police drew up a protocol that Zhenya had a control purchase of drugs. He was brought to the police department, and when he asked for water, they gave him the juice in which they mixed amphetamine.

They talked about this at the trial themselves, now former police officers who became the accused. When their gang was arrested in 2016, three out of five concluded a pre -trial agreement with the investigation and frankly told everything. How the documents were faked, signatures, how falsified the criminal case. The same was confirmed by handwriting examinations.

Police stored in the gym one of the administrative buildings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Smolensk region “16 types of narcotic drugs (...) with a total mass of more than 240 grams!” The court, held in March 2018, set up accents for sure: Evgeny Ignatov, who was serving a sentence in a maximum security colony under Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Illegal Turnover of Drugs”) is innocent.

Everyone was waiting for Zhenya home, but the regional court of the Smolensk region in every possible way prevented this. When the prosecutor’s office demanded to revise the verdict, the court did not send the case for a review to the first instance, but simply reduced the sentence of three years ...

That is, the innocent remained to sit for another seven years in a maximum security colony.

Zhenya’s father, Vasily Ignatov, wrote gigabytes of appeals to different instances, but only unsubscribes came from everywhere. He says:

- Today, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova. She is the only one who heard us and responded. After her appeal to the Prosecutor General’s Office, a commission was sent from Moscow, and everything went differently at once. The Smolensk prosecutor's office was obliged to endure the conclusion on the resumption of proceedings in the criminal case within the prescribed time due to the newly discovered circumstances. I want to thank the employees of Tatyana Moskalkova: they called me when the case was drawn because of the regional court, who did not want to do anything, supported, said that everyone was in control, their son would be released.

- On September 26, 2019, the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation with a cassation ruling canceled the verdict and all subsequent decisions adopted in relation to Evgeny Ignatov. And transferred a criminal case for a new consideration to the first instance. The Supreme Court also changed the measure of restraint to Evgeny Ignatov for a subscription about not leaving, in connection with this he was released from custody. Given the position of the Supreme Court and the position of the General Prosecutor's Office, in the court of first instance I expect two options for the decision in the case of Yevgeny Ignatov. The first - the prosecutor's office refuses the prosecution and the criminal case is closed without court hearings. The second option is an acquittal in the court of first instance. But I am more inclined to the first option.

... Almost seven years ago, a student planned a wedding. He decided where it was better to hold this joyful event. The wedding took place in the colony. From there, they also returned together - on October 2, the wife got a date. And came to my wife. And the next day he was released. On the way, they shouted with happiness.

They stole seven years of life.
