The Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoga was the first athlete in history to have managed to run the marathon distance (42 kilometers 195 meters) in less than two hours.
On October 12, during the race in Vienna, the 34-year-old Kenyz finished with a result of one hour 59 minutes 40.2 seconds. He was assisted by pacemakers .
This result will not be counted as an official record, the marathon did not take place under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
In May 2017, Kipchog, as part of the Nike advertising race, had already tried to run the marathon in less than two hours - but then its result was two hours 25 seconds. Achievement also did not count.
Kipchoga is the 2016 Olympic champion in Marathon, a multiple winner of the world championships in average distances.
He owns the current world record at the marathon distance. In September 2018, Kenyzran a Berlin marathon in two hours, one minute and 39 seconds.
