On October 13, 1966, Maxim Moshkov, founder of the LIB electronic library, was born. ru.
Personal business
Maxim Evgenievich Moshkov (53 years) was born in Moscow. In school years, he became interested in programming. In the seventh or eighth grade, his father brought him the book “Funds of Fortran”, and Moshkov learned to program in this language.
In 1988 he graduated from the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University, in 1991, after graduate school, he became an employee of the System Research Research Research Institute. This institution is engaged in data processing, programming, computer technologies.
He said : “In 1993, my work suddenly ended up in the place where the Internet came. <...> And this parish looked very technological. The men pulled the cable, put the modems, dragged some wires, agreed, talked, invited programmers-investigators, and the whole thing was twisted with their hands, directly "on snot". In general, it was an interesting time, and then I saw how it was arranged. ”
Since 1990, he began to collect books in electronic form. “I am going to work where there is a public Unix computer, on which there was 15 people,” Moshkov recalled. -There are files that someone brought. <...> A book time, a book two, three book. I go on some business trip, come, and there is also some kind of collection. And I all dragged it to myself. I loved to read terribly, but there were not always enough books in libraries. ”
In 1994, he posted this collection on the Internet, creating a presentation site in which there was a My Library page. Moshkov converted all the books into HTML, for which he created about 25 converters.
In the early 2000s, he received a grant of $ 4,000 from the Soros Fund. This money was enough to purchase equipment for the first server and domain. So the personal site has turned into the “Maxim Moshkov Library” (Lib.ru), to date - the largest in Runet.
In 2004, for the first time, he seriously encountered copyright. The KM Online company, which then had a paid network library vip.km.ru, filed a lawsuit against Moshkov, accusing him of violating the rights of science fiction writer Eduard Gevorkyan. In March 2005, Gevorkyan was awarded 3,000 rubles for moral damage.
“Somewhere in the middle of the two thousandths,” says Moshkov, “it suddenly became clear that my dream does not work, because the copyright holder will come, with the help of the law it will dry us, put it with a lot of money, and this cannot be done. Therefore, the Moshkov libraries project at about that time, in 2006-2007, practically ceased to exist ”-that is, he ceased to develop as a library, which includes the most popular art books.
“The books there are not all that I would like to have, but only those that are permitted, allowed or not prohibited,” the library creator said.
According to Moshkov, despite the conservation of the project, 300 thousand people per day enter his library.
In the early 2000s, Moshkov began to develop the Samizdat network magazine-a project in which books are laid out by the authors themselves. They can delete or edit their books.
Maxim Moshkov conducts UNIX, HP Open View and other IT disciplines at the HPE Russia Educational Center (Hewlett Packard Enterprise). The programmer is married, he has three daughters and a son.
What is famous
Maxim Moshkov. Photo: kremlin.ruThe creator of the largest in Runet of the free online library Lib.ru , which presents fiction, fiction, books on history, politics, poetry and other texts. At the request of the authors and copyright holders, Moshkov always removes controversial content - for example, the novel “Master and Margarita” is in second place in popularity with readers, but there is no text of the book itself on the site. In parallel with the library, there is a Samizdat project, where books are laid out by the authors themselves.
What you need to know about
“The Library of Maxim Moshkov” (Lib.ru) was created in 1994, since then its appearance has not changed. Nevertheless, navigating the site is quite simple. According to Moshkov, “the library works so well without design, so what the hell is the design for us? To make it beautiful? You come to the library to take the book, your whole task: grabbed, found, author, book and run. You go to read it at home. The reader does not entertain all these beautiful pictures. ”
Direct speech
About the first meeting with copyright ( Therunet , August 2014): “It seems that it was Vishnevsky. He wrote an angry letter to my provider. The site lay some kind of microscopic book, a collection of poems. For me, it was just a text size of 200 kilobytes. The provider first turned off me, sent a letter, and for me it was the first problems that arose due to the activity of the copyright holder. The year was probably the 99th. It was then that I found out that there are not only readers, but also writers. I hid the book, removed from access, the site was returned, and since then I found out that the copyright holder is. ”
About love for reading ( Gorod- Plus. TV , April 2014): “I can say that I am the only of their most reading people in the country. Not in the first place, of course, but in the forefront. I read two hours every day, and not everyone can boast. Of course, there are people who read 5-10 hours a day, but that's why I'm not in the forefront. In my life, I managed to read about 5,000 books.
Somewhere 95 percent of the books that I read are electronic. Yes, in general, what's the difference, in what form does a person read? Let it be a book, an application or an electric reader. Here is another matter - what a person reads! With this, everything is a little worse. ”
About traditional libraries ( Russian Newspaper , December 2015): “This is a warehouse of books. Any. The correct library should have any books. I do not want to call it cultural or some other space. The space is formed by the person who came there. If a nationalist comes there, then he finds books close to his worldview there. If the scientist comes, he finds scientific literature. Someone comes to entertain, and then the detectives, the adventure genre. Someone comes for a ladies' novel and also gets his own. These are different spaces of culture that are completely not intersecting in one library. The librarian’s business is simple - to provide the reader with a service, that is, to provide him with what he wants is looking for. And to influence the reader’s choice, to educate a taste for good literature is a completely different matter. Personally, I believe that a person himself will figure out what to read. ”
