According to journalists, the suspect is called Joseph B. (the surname is not revealed). He was a tenant of the land on which the farm is located. Joseph B. was born in Austria, worked in Ruinerwell with a handyman and, in particular, made furniture. According to the neighbors, Joseph B. every day came to the farm, they thought that the Austrian lived there alone (the neighbors saw him bringing food and toilet paper there). The owner of the farm also reported the same, who noted that Joseph B. always paid a fee in time. According to her, she did not notice that other people live on the farm.
In total, on the farm, in addition to Joseph, seven people lived: a man and six of his adult children. According to the local television channel, the family "was waiting for the end of the world" (the authorities did not confirm this). The eldest son, who was 25 years old, on October 13, got out of the house to the local bar, where he ordered beer and asked for help. He said that the family lived in isolation on the farm for nine years. A bar officer called the police. On October 14, the police checked the house and found an adult man, five of his children, as well as Joseph B.
The family was kept in a locked room, but not in the basement, as the media previously reported. The police failed to talk with the eldest of the children (who went to the bar) - he was not in the house. As the journalists, where he is now, is noted .
The police said that none of the seven people who lived on the farm was registered in the municipal register of the population. Residents of the house reported that they are members of the same family - and have been living on a farm since 2010. At the same time, the police do not know whether they are really relatives. In what relations are they with Joseph B. is not known to the end. Initially, the police also said that they did not know whether people on the farm were voluntarily.
The eldest of the children who lived on the farm may be called Jan Zone Van Dorsten. He used this name on social networks. Nine years ago, he registered on Facebook , after which he stopped appearing on the network. In June 2019, Van Dorstens began to publish on Facebook links to events conducted by eco -activists. In addition, he started Instagram and Twitter . The first posts on Twitter appeared in May. On Instagram, Van Dorsten mainly posted his photos. According to journalists, he could publish posts while on a farm.
One of the inhabitants of Roynerart Jeffrey Shepers said that a 25-year-old man, the eldest of the children living on the farm, talked with him several times in a local bar. For the first time, Shepers noticed him at the bar in early October, when it was raining outside. Visitors invited the young man in old clothes to go inside and offered him beer. He said that he could not return home due to a difficult family situation. Appearing in the bar on October 13, he said that he needed work and new clothes (it was then that he spoke about the imprisonment of his family).
Ian Zon Van Dorsten, according to journalists, was born in January 1994 in the city of Hasselt in the province of Overassel in the east of the Netherlands. As one of the residents of Hasselt said , Joseph B. lived in a neighboring house (the police did not confirm this). In May 2005, the relatives of Van Dorsten moved to the neighboring city of Zvartsleys. Now there are searches for two addresses, including in the former toy store owned by the family. Since January 2008, the family has lived in the city of Meppel in Drent, and since August 2010-on a farm in Ruinerwold. All these places are not far from each other.
On the Van Dorsten page in LinkedIn, journalists found a record, where it was reported that his mother had died in 2004. He did not go to school and received a home education. In social networks, Van Dorsten called himself a lover of nature and, in particular, called for "restore the earth." He also talked about his work, mentioned that he had experience in marketing and web development. Since June 2019, he worked on the website of Creconat, which belongs to Joseph B., but the site has not been launched. Van Dorsten also managed the page of another company Joseph B. on Facebook. In addition, he wrote that he opened the online store for the sale of wood.
