Dutch police have arrested the 67-year-old father of a family that had been living in an isolated room on a farm in the province of Drenthe since 2010, Algemeen Dagblad reports. The publication cites his name as Gerrit-Jan van D.

He is suspected of false imprisonment, money laundering and cruelty. The police believe that the people who lived on the farm were not there of their own free will. During the inspection of the house, the police found a large sum of money.

After the family was released, police arrested the farm's 58-year-old tenant, Austrian-born Josef B., on suspicion of involvement in unlawful deprivation of liberty and causing bodily harm. On October 17, the court extended his detention for two weeks.

According to media reports, the father of the family, Gerrit-Jan van D., like Jozef B., were members of the Christian sect Moonies . The Dutch branch of the sect reported that Gerrit-Jan van D. had been expelled from it.
