After the announcement of the departure of the Americans, Erdogan ordered the introduction of the Turkish army into the northeastern regions of Syria. When the Syrian Kurds realized that Washington abandoned them, they called on Damascus and Moscow to introduce forces to the northern regions of the country, thereby stopping the Turkish offensive. Syrian Kurds lost about 11 thousand people in battles with Islamists. In the northeast of Syria there are hundreds of thousands of captives-IG fighters (IS, ISIS- an organization banned in the Russian Federation ) and members of their families. Trump hastily announced the introduction of new sanctions against Turkey, and then sent a representative delegation to negotiations with Erdogan, including Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien and Syrian Special Representative James Jeffrey.

For five hours, negotiations continued. As a result, an agreement was reached on the ceasefire for 120 hours (5 days). President Trump and his team call it a “truce”, the Turkish authorities are just a “pause” given by the armed forces of the Kurds to move away from the Turkish border outside the 30-kilometer buffer zone (it is called the “security zone” in Ankara). Kurdish “people's self -defense units” (YPG), at the request of Ankara, should be left without heavy weapons, and their fortifications should be destroyed. In return, the United States suspend sanctions, and in the case of a ceasefire on an ongoing basis, sanctions will be lifted. They were introduced against the Ministry of Defense and Energy of Turkey, as well as three ministers - defense, internal affairs and energy. At the same time, Trump decided to increase tariffs for steel to 50%.

“President Erdogan did not surrender anything, and President Trump gave him everything,” said the speaker of Pelosi and the head of the democratic minority in the Senate Chaka Shumer. Republican Senator Mitt Romni, who called Trump's refusal to support the Kurds with a “bloody spot in the annals of American history”, called for urgent hearing in Congress.

The House of Representatives by the vast majority of votes (354/60) condemned Trump’s policy in Syria, dozens of republican congressmen voted along with the Democrats.

Trump also stated that the Kurds are “not angels”, although it was their main allies in the war with Islamic terrorists, the US president called the “real heroes” in the recent past.
