Google announced in its blog that it is introducing a new method for analyzing search queries based on artificial intelligence.
The technology, called BERT , will analyze not only the main words in a query, but also auxiliary words (such as prepositions). This will allow the search engine to better understand the context of the sentence and provide users with more accurate results.
Google called the creation of BERT "the biggest breakthrough in the last five years and one of the biggest breakthroughs in the history of search."
The new technology was first presented in November 2018. According to the Financial Times, Google recently began updating software in its data centers to implement it. At the first stage, BERT will only work with queries in English; in the future, the algorithm will learn to recognize other languages.
BERT will help search better understand every tenth query in the US in English, and we'll expand this technology to other languages over time.
